Snowtastic

I know by now the snow has gotten on everybody's nerves but I just wanted to share the mini snowman my sister Leah and I created.
The reason he is mini is (a.) Things are better in mini and
(b.) the snow wasn't sticky enough to make a large snowman

What to wear on a snowy day in the countryside.....

this is actually very close to what im wearing today minus the lovely coat and ridiculously high price tags. Ive found in the "artic snap" we are experiencing at the mo that Im loving shorts and a big woolly jumper with extra warm socks. Add a blazing fire and a hot port and Im happy out :)

Only 20 days to Christmas as my little sister pointed out...exciting. But what to ask Santa for?

I heart lanvin, do you?

As everyone may already know lanvin for H&M is launching in Dublin stores on Tuesday. To my dismay I wont be there to trawl through the wonderfully over the top ruffled floral creations that are up for grabs, but it hasn't stopped me lusting after them all the same.
I have to say H&M always seem to hit the nail on the head when it comes to designer collaborations...Victor & Rolf's collection was brilliantly received, in fairness though who doesn't love a puffy sleeved white shirt along with a wedding dress for a smidgen of a designer price. Along with other greats such as the Daddy of fashion Karl Lagerfeld, Stella Mc Cartney, a bit of Matthew Williamson and Commes des Garcons the quirky japanese duo, I think h&m have come up in the style stakes.
But back to the latest collection and ohhhh how yummy it is. One shoulder ruffled dresses in shocking pink and sunshine yellow, tulle party frocks and the amazing shoes, velvet bowed and floral print.
The show at Hotel Amour in NY was whimsical, it looked like a surreal cartoonish wedding party, with poodles accompanying models down the runway, lashings of costume jewelery and beehive hairdos, a la Hairspray the musical to finish off looks. Nothing was too OTT leopard print tights were teamed with flowery dresses and faux fur on faux fur.
Lanvin designer Alber Elbazh managed to create a fantastical fantasy world that made me smile.
doesn't he look like a cartoon character, the mad uncle at the wedding, in a good way of course.

The wild wild West

Since returning from NY life has been busy busy busy. I have been running around like a headless chicken seeing people, looking for jobs, graduating and I still haven't unpacked properly. I dont think Ill worry about that until I have nothing else to do. So Im on the buzz of visiting anyone and everyone I know (partly to avoid the inevitable unpacking). At the moment Im sitting in Mayo at my friend Joan's house looking out at the spectacular hill/mountain (not sure which) that is Croagh Patrick. You know the one lots of very religious people climb in their bare feet every year on Paddy's feast day.

I'd forgotten how beautiful a country Ireland is, even when it is pouring with rain and recession and all that jazz.
Yesterday we ventured to the beach and jumped around, watched surfers and walked, After we visited a fjord and had a hot port to warm us up.

Other activities have included : extreme sparkle dance nail painting, tending to sick kittens, walking in the raining and getting a job...all in all I am Happy Out

Holy Shirts!!!!.

I have just witnessed the latest viktor & rolf collection and its aaaaaamazing. The wonderful designer duo have reworked the classic shirt and i want ever single one of their oh so lovely Spring/ Summer collection. The skinny trousers with shirt cuffed bottom are just the beginning, the collection moves into simple shift style dresses with touches of shirt here and there. There is of course the ultimate shirtastic creation saved until the very end, multiple layers of shirting, puffed sleeves and buttons....an explosion of shirts. Mmmm delicious.

I love the red patent shoes...yum yum....I WANT! Now to dig out all those white shirts and get making :)

puurrrfect print

I love a bit of leopard print in all shapes and forms. Theres nothing better than a pop of leopard print with an all black outfit be it a scarf, shoes or a loverly coat as can be seen on all the fashionistas lately. Take a look at the ever stylish Olsen twins and Ms Chung rocking the spot. Ive been living in my(sisters) leopard print coat as of late, previously I had been wearing a hand me down from my mum , a short leopard jacket that seemed to go with everything...must find that one again. I dont think leopard print will ever really be out of fashion, I know I'll always have it in my wardrobe.
p.s. Apologies for the puntastic heading...but i do love a good pun!

Forgotten treasures..

After three months living out of a suitcase,a rather large over stuffed suitcase (I had genuine fears that it would explode at dublin airport and my knickers would be strewn all over the luggage carousel, thankfully that didn't happen) I have returned to the rest of my wardrobe. I love that when you get home from a trip and rediscover all the clothes you had forgotten about. What is even more exciting is that some of these rediscovered gems are bang on trend and have been on my wishlist.

So here is what I discovered: 1. Camel coloured cape a la Zara. 2.Long grey knitted dress gifted to me by my wonderful gran. 3.Leopard print faux fur coat courtesy of my sis (but she is unaware of this) 4. Grandad Aran knit cardy (just like the fetching one above) 5. Black floppy hat...lovely things to find.

the wanderer returns

After 3months and many adventures I have returned from the bright lights and crazy living of New York city. I had intended to keep my blog up to date but in between lack of internet and hectic living I fell behind. Over the next few posts you might spot the odd snap of NYC and the mischief we (Daz, Bex and I) got up to.

A place that we spent a lot of time was Bedford Avenue, hop on the L line to Brooklyn and you arrive at what can only be described as the epicentre of hipsters. The area is awash with cool kids, beautiful bicycles (which i lusted after constantly), quirky shops and deeeelicious restaurants. If you wander away from the main drag to the waterfront there is a great view of Manhattan's skyline, and the ever changing weather. The day we went there was a Jewish family swimming (fully clothed). A great image of NYC in the background and the kids in the foreground
Daz and I pondering life.....

Farewell tall buildings, sirens, lights, dollar bills, bagels and hello green fields, starry skies, real butter and party times :)

New York, New York

So Im off to the Big Apple on Wednesday with my two lovely friends Dazzle and Bex. We are moving there for a few months on a big adventure. Hopefully we will meet lots of people, see lots of things and have a brilliant time....see you kids on the other side of the pond, yaaaaahoo x

wrap me in couture

I had a quick look at the latest couture shows in Paris and myohmy couture is DIVINE. Im liking Chanel's matching boots with dresses, particularly the sparkling blue beauts.
Check out the embroidery..I love it. Imagine having one pair of shoes for each outfit you own...that would be a lorra lorra storage.
I LOVE Givenchy's offerings...their couture collection has it all, glamour, lace, nude colour palette, gold, fringing and fur, oh and feathers. Its fabulous. I want it all, and then I want a highly glamourous party to wear it to.
Im loving the lace/embroidered panels with sheer areas. yum yum yum.

let them eat cake

So I have moved back home for a few weeks before I head off on adventures yonder and to fight back the boredom I have turned to baking. Cooking and baking is much easier at home as my lovely mum has all the essential ingredients to create a gastronomical success. My latest project was to bake a cake...easy I know but which cake to use. I flicked through all the faithful cook books, and decided on Nigella Lawsons, Malteser Choclate cake. You add horlicks to the cake mix to give it a malty taste..mmm. It was really easy to make, and just as easy to eat. I only managed to get a quick pic before it was snapped up.

winter woolies

I know we have only just started Summer, but you can never be too prepared for the inevitable Irish winter(also its raining and quite miserable outside today), and browsing through the fall 2010 collections I have a wish list. I love coats as I spend a good 70% of the year wearing them. The key is to find a coat or jacket that is practical yet wonderfully stylish at the same time. If your coat is savage then you don't have to worry as much about whats underneath. So my wish list begins...Burberry Prorsum's latest offerings are ohh so lovely.....I'm liking the extra large double collar and cosy looking sheep's skin, belted wrists ain't to shabby either. The inside out looking one is me fav I think. It looks soooo warm and soooo stylish, could be worn dressed up or with a pair of jeans...

Exhibition time..

The dress im wearing is by TBA, with a vintage belt and sky high Aldo heels. Im clutching my beloved Chanel 2.55 quilted handbag, in black lambskin. My love affair with this beautiful creation began many years ago. Any time I caught a glimpse of this handbag in a magazine or in reality I would turn into an obsessive crazy person. I would visit the Chanel concession in BTs (and still do) and stare at all the lovely things sitting on the shelves thinking someday I will own one of these. My obsessive outbursts didnt go unnoticed and on my 21st birthday my dream of owning a "real live" chanel handbag came through. even the packaging was fantastic, perfectly pleated tissue paper dotted with "cc" stickers wrapped around the quilted beaut. Its something I will treasure forever, I love it.

It's taken me a few days to get these together. Here are some pictures of my grad show exhibition at NCAD.

Summer Time

Summer time is finally upon us and college is finished so I thought it was time to make my foray into the world of blogging. I'm new to all of this so go easy on me. Seeing as I have just completed my degree show I suppose I should show you what it is I do. My printed textile degree collection, entitled Travel through Textiles, was inspired by vintage travel, with a hint of romance thrown in for good measure. This is a small selection of design work from the collection. Photographer: Brendan Bourke, Designer: Hannah Sheridan.
